In District with Rep. Kevin Schmidt

Illinois State Representative Kevin Schmidt has not slowed down since returning full time to the 114th District in June after a long legislative session in Springfield.

Schmidt kicked-off the summer with Mobile Office Hours in Dupo, Freeburg, Lebanon and Millstadt to ensure constituents from throughout the district have easy access to their State Representative. He also hosted shred events in Lebanon and Freeburg and sponsored a blood drive in O’Fallon.

Partnering with the Citizens Utility Board, Schmidt hosted a free Utility Bill Clinic in Cahokia Heights to help residents manage their utility expenses. He participated in the Twigs "Free Summer Lunch" program, distributing lunches to children in Dupo who are at risk for not having a mid-day meal while on break from school. Additionally, Schmidt toured Our Brother’s Keeper in East St. Louis and met with their director, board members, volunteers, and staff to learn more about their efforts to prevent recidivism and help previously incarcerated individuals gain skills they need to be productive community members.

Schmidt joined the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to present Branding Iron Holdings the Employer Training Investment Program (ETIP) Grant. The funds from the grant will be used to provide workforce training and development.

Schmidt continued to prove his commitment to senior citizens. He provided a

legislative update to the residents of Garden Place Senior Living Facility in Millstadt and while visiting with seniors at Revela at O’Fallon Senior Living, he was delighted to meet the first woman to hold a leadership position in the Illinois state legislature, former Assistant House Minority Leader Celeste Stiehl.

To ensure seniors have the tools and knowledge necessary to protect themselves from deceptive practices, Schmidt and Marsha Griffin from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office gave a fraud prevention presentation at Assisted Living at Silver Creek in Millstadt and is scheduled to provide another fraud prevention program at the Millstadt Senior Center on July 18.

For the remainder of July and August, Schmidt is hosting a Tire Recycling event, Property Tax Appeal Seminar, two constituent coffees and a job fair. He will also be out and about at various community programs throughout the district.

Rep. Schmidt believes his role in the state legislature is to understand the needs of the local residents so he can represent them well in Springfield. The best way to know what residents need is to provide them with mechanisms to connect with him whether through his extensive outreach activities or his considerable efforts to get out to all parts of the 114th District.
