House Republican legislators have a busy start to summer outreach events

With the 2024 Spring session of the Illinois House now concluded, House Republican legislators are hosting a variety of exciting summer events across our state. State Representatives do so much more than just vote on legislation. Your House Republican lawmakers are planning outreach events in their communities focused on a wide array of community and state services.

Now that school is out for summer, be on the lookout for a Kid’s Fair coming to your neighborhood soon. Representative Nicole La Ha, whose office is based in Lemont, joined with Senate Leader John Curran for a Children’s Safety Expo on June 1. Families got to enjoy a reptile show with live snakes and even an alligator. Children of all ages are always blown away by the amazing activities and exhibits offered by their legislators. On June 8, Representatives Dan Ugaste and Jeff Keicher held a Kids Fair in Geneva where attendees witnessed a helicopter landing and take-off. Representatives Jennifer Sanalitro and Amy Grant teamed up to offer a Kids Fair on June 14 in Bloomingdale where the always popular, “Touch a Truck” was a huge hit.
Kids aren’t the only ones who reap the benefits of our summer community events. Representative Jackie Haas held a Job Fair on June 5 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Kankakee. Haas gathered over fifty employers to connect job seekers in her district to a new career. There were multiple training sessions available including, “Navigating the State Hiring Process, Interviewing Tips, and a Resume Writing Tutorial.” In this tough economy, it’s imperative that job seekers find the right career for them and their family.

While large events like Kids Fairs and Job Fairs are always popular, look for your state representative to host a smaller event like a “Coffee & Conversation” like Representative Brad Fritts of Dixon hosted on June 12. This is a more down-home type of gathering where residents sit down around a table at a local diner and discuss the issues most important to them. Additionally, it gives legislators a chance to give a behind the scenes look at how things get done in Springfield.

Senior Fairs are always one of our most popular events. With so many amazing resources available to assist our seniors, please be on the lookout for an event coming near you in the coming weeks, including in Carthage on July 19 hosted by Representative Norine Hammond, in Mt. Vernon on July 29 hosted by Representative Dave Severin, on July 30 in Red Bud hosted by Representative David Friess, in Lemont on July 31 hosted by Representative Nicole La Ha, in Morris on August 1 hosted by Representative Jed Davis, and in Roselle on August 20 hosted by Representative Jennifer Sanalitro.

We have shred truck events, mobile DMV’s, R/x drop offs, and recycling events on the books this June and July. Please visit the events page of your state representative’s website to review the summer events schedule.
