“I hosted this Back to School Supply Drive to help the students and families in our district that might need a little extra help this back to school season,” Rep. Sanalitro stated. “Getting ready to go back to school can be one of the more stressful times for a family. Having to buy new clothes, shoes, and other supplies can become expensive very quickly, especially since inflation has dramatically increased costs.”
Rep. Bunting sponsored drop-off locations at his offices in Dwight and Watseka. Large items such as backpacks and lunch boxes were welcome, along with pencils, notebooks, and any other school supply items as well.
“For some students in our area, it is difficult to obtain the school supplies they need in order to start the year,” Rep. Bunting stated. “That’s why I decided to host a school supply drive at each of my district offices in Dwight and Watseka. Thank you to all who contributed, and I am blown away by the generosity of the folks in the 106th District.”
Studies have shown that starting the school year with the necessary school supplies promotes learning, boosts self-esteem, and helps keep kids in school. Across the country, schools are providing less and parents are being asked to purchase even more school supplies for their children. School supply drives help ensure that all kids have the same opportunities to start the school year right.
