Legislation will help students with Dyslexia
This week, State Representative JoAnn Osmond (R-Gurnee) advanced legislation requiring the State Board of Education to recognize the international definition of dyslexia. Currently, individual schools may adopt their own rules recognizing dyslexia as a learning disability, but due to budgetary constraints and a general lack of understanding of dyslexia, few schools provide dyslexia specific services. Representative Osmond stated that by adopting the international definition of dyslexia at the state level, local schools will now have the guidance to begin helping students that suffer from dyslexia.
